Objectives of the Trust

The benefits of the Trust are open to all students of Mathematics. The Trust will not carry on any activity with the intension of making profit and will function with the following objectives and commitments.

  • (a) Motivating students to get higher degrees in mathematics
  • (b) Providing 5 Best Paper Awards with Rs. 2,000/- per award every year to the researchers presenting best papers at the annual conferences of:
    • ADMA (Academy of Discrete Mathematics and its Applications)
    • RMS (Ramanujam Mathematical Society)
  • (c) Providing an annual recurring grant of Rs. 5000/- to each of the ADMA and RMS to invite a good mathematician to deliver the Prof. R. Balakrishnan Endowment Lecture at their annual conferences.
  • (d) Providing annual cash awards for the first two rank holders – one for the best student of I M.Sc. (Mathematics) and another to the best student of II M.Sc. (Mathematics) in the five institutions:
    1. Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli
    2. National College, Tiruchirappalli
    3. Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar
    4. Periyar University, Salem
    5. Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre, SASTRA University, Kumbakonam
  • (e) Funding 12 different Departments of Mathematics to run a Compact Course each year by an external expert.
    Each course shall include at least 3 lectures (1½ hours each) over 3 consecutive days. The Regional Coordinator will suggest three speakers to the President of the Trust, who will finalize one.
    A grant of Rs. 25,000/- will be provided for honorarium and travel expenses of the expert (other expenses borne by the Organizing Department).
    Each Region: Two compact courses per year – one in the first semester (Arts & Science/University) and one in the second semester (Engineering Institution).
